Intensive Psychiatric Programs*

For Males and Females (Ages 5-12)

*This program is TRICARE®-certified.

The Children’s Program serves boys and girls, ages 5 – 12, diagnosed with psychiatric disorders that require a more intensive level of care. These children will demonstrate a wide range of psychiatric and emotional disorders which limit their ability to function adequately in their families, schools, and communities.

Symptoms may include a history of trauma:

  • Severely dysfunctional families
  • Loss of caregiver
  • Abandonment
  • Victims of Abuse – Physical and/or Sexual
  • Neglect
  • Failure to adjust to foster care placement(s) or less-structured treatment programs,
  • Required Acute (psychiatric) Hospitalizations

Behaviors may include:

  • Defiance
  • Tantrums
  • Anger outbursts
  • Purposeful actions to hurt others or animals
  • Poor impulse control
  • Lying,
  • Stealing
  • Hoarding
  • Escape into fantasy affecting social and academic adjustment,
  • Preoccupation with risk-taking activities (fire setting, self-abuse, running into traffic)
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Chronic irritability and agitation,
  • Lack of interest in school, peers or family life
  • Lack of attachment and fear of trust in caregivers

We recognize how difficult it is for you to place your child in services away from home. The main objective for all staff is to foster your child’s highest level of productivity into becoming more successful in his or her daily life by teaching socially acceptable behaviors, promoting positive self-esteem and emotional growth. We will work with your child to teach him or her how to deal with his or her feelings and to develop positive emotional skills.

  • Comprehensive Assessments
  • Individualized Treatment Plans
  • Psychiatric Services (includes Medication Management)

  • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Recreation Therapy
  • Psycho-educational Groups (examples: Anger Management, Coping Skills, Teamwork, Feelings and Emotional Expression, Trauma, Communication, Self Esteem, Boundaries, Grief and Loss)

Specialized Areas of Treatment

  • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) – A components-based treatment model that incorporates trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive behavioral, family, and humanistic principles and techniques. Children and parents learn new skills to help process thoughts and feelings related to traumatic life events; manage and resolve distressing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related traumatic life events; and enhance safety, growth, parenting skills, and family communication.
