Lisa M. McDowell, LPC, LSATP, NCC, ACS, has been named the Clinical Director of Operations and will have direct oversight of all clinical services and staff. Lisa has been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 21 years and a Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner for 19 years. Lisa is also a Nationally Certified Counselor and an Approved Clinical Supervisor with the Center for Credentialing and Education.
Originally from Lynchburg Virginia, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Radford University and her Master of Education in counseling from Lynchburg College, with post graduate work completed through Virginia Tech. She has been in the mental health and substance abuse fields for over 19 years and has worked in both outpatient, community based environments, crisis and inpatient hospital settings as a clinician as well as an administrator. Lisa specializes in working with adolescent addiction and substance abuse and oppositional behaviors, as well as a variety of other specialty issues including eating disorders and cutting behaviors.
Lisa is also very involved in professional organizations, serving as Past President of the Virginia Counselors Association and the Virginia Clinical Counselors Alliance and as the Vice Chair of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Virginia Juvenile Justice Association. She began her work in a residential setting, eventually moving into outpatient services, developing outpatient programs for agencies and specializing in adolescent Intensive Outpatient Programs for substance abuse and addictions including educational groups, process groups and family groups.
